  • For some reason I associate the holidays with traveling.  Both of our parents live in the same area so we do not have to do any traveling to visit them.  So the holidays were not quite feeling like the holidays till New Years Eve.  Then we only traveled around 3 hours, but it still is traveling.  We were invited to go to Elvie's cousins place.  It also is the same area where my two sisters live.  So we went down early and were at Tom and Galyn's place for the afternoon.  When evening came we all headed over to the party.  My sisters were invited over too.  (This is the same cousins that my sister is dating one of them.)  We had a swell time hanging out and eating.  Sheila made a mocha punch.  It was a very good even though she thought it tasted too much like coffee (she doesn't like coffee).  She also made brushetta (not sure how that is spelled) with tomatoes and added feta cheese to some of them.  We also had party mix by Galyn, no bake cookies by Liz with Galyn's ingredients, ham wraps by Kris, a cheese and meat plate by Jared, and various other snacks.  In 2000 three of the guys that were there were over in Israel - Wendell (Elvie's brother), Tom (my brother-in-law), Sheldon (a cousin to Elvie) plus two other guys that were absent.  The guys took videos of different sites and things they did over there.  They had/have a very good sense of humor so there was pretty many laughs as we watched it.  It was fun to do a little traveling, although a 9 month old puts a different perspective on the traveling thing.   We got a motel in the wee hours of the morning.  We traveled part way home, but didn't feel like trying to go the whole way because the roads were bad.  To put it mildly Kaitlyn didn't do so well at the motel.  Being at a motel with a fussy baby is a pain.  (Well, fussy babies aren't fun anywhere, but when there are other people around it's worse.)  We did a little shopping yesterday.  I was able to get some more clothes for Kaitlyn at Old Navy and TJMax.  I am always one that goes to the clearance racks first to try to get the good deals.  What a cheapie.  It seems I mostly shop for clothes for Kaitlyn and look for clothes for me (I am not always that successful at finding clothes for me).

I wanted to add the recipe for the No Bake Cookies that I made at Galyn's.  I made them before and they are good and easy to make.  I'll write what the recipe calls for (I do a little guessing here and there as far as measurements).  This recipe comes from Derstine Cookbook.

    No Bake Cookies #1

    Part A:

    2 C. sugar

    3 T. cocoa

    1/2 C. margarine

    1/2 C. milk

    Dash salt

    Part B:

    3 C. quick cooking oats

    1/2 C. peanut butter

    1 tsp. vanilla

Bring part A to a rapid boil.  Boil for 1 minute; then add ingredients in Part B.  (Have B ingredients measured and ready to dash into cooked mixture.)  Mix well and working quickly drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper.  Yields 4 dozen wonderful candylike cookies.  A special treat to make on a hot day.

I forgot about the salt so that was omitted and she uses a spread instead of margarine.  They are good like that but I added about 1/2 to 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips after I removed them from the stove.  If you add them too soon they just melt.  They add a really good chocolate flavor to them.  And they were also really good on a cold, snowy night.
